National Association for Women in Masonry

Planning for the future

Mission Statement:

NAWM strives to create an environment through education, training, and networking that enhances the leadership skills of women in the building industry.


Goals:

  1. Create forums for consideration of unique challenges faced by women in our professions
  2. Generate interest among women in becoming involved in the building industry.
  3. Train members on issues related to leadership.
  4. Recognize achievements through annual conferences and social gatherings.
  5. Host symposiums and presentations on current issues of architecture/design fields.
  6. Invite speakers and facilitate discussion groups and in-house design critiques with the encouragement of open discussion.
  7. Exchange information regarding the use of masonry.
  8. Promote the value of masonry through education and hands-on techniques.


Ten Year Goal Projection:

One Year (August 2004):
Key goals: Completion of initial planning

  • Begin and complete charitable cooperation application. - Achieved!
  • 100 Washington state chapter members.
  • 2 state chapters outside of Washington.
  • Have an informational booth at the MIW Architectural
    Seminar in Blaine, Washington - Achieved!
  • Host at least one function for local members. - Achieved!
  • Earn one-half of all expenditures. - Achieved!
  • Complete a marketing strategy.
  • Complete a fund-raising strategy.
  • Complete ten year plan for the national organization. - Achieved!
  • Complete framework and guide to setting up chapters. - Achieved!

Two Years (August 2005):
Key goals: Financial independence.

  • Complete financial independence. - Achieved!
  • Review goals and 10 year outlook.
  • Participate in a National Event for further exposure. - Achieved!

Five Years (ie before 5 year anniversary):
Key goals: National expansion.

  • 20 state chapters.
  • 1,000 members nationwide.
  • Bring all chapter leaders together for yearly conference.
  • Partner with MIW in sponsoring Architects' Masonry Symposium or other event.
  • Establish charitable funds for scholarships and donation to women's organizations.
  • Review goals and 10 year outlook.

Ten Years:
Key goals: National prominence and International expansion.

  • Chapter in every state.
  • 5,000 members nationwide.
  • Part and/or full time paid staff.
  • Partner with MCAA in hosting a national masonry event.
  • Continue to partner with MIW in hosting local and national events.
  • Establish International Association of Women for Masonry.
  • Complete framework for IAWM.
  • Elect leadership for IAWM.
  • Review goals and 10 year outlook.
